DELMAR - Lockwood S. "Woody" Winship, 57, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank Sprague and Kathryn Street Winship. Woody graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1973 and from Monroe Community College in Rochester in 1975. He later attended SUNY Plattsburgh. Woody had been a longtime employee at Curtis Lumber in Delmar and most recently worked at the Albany County Correctional Facility, where he was embraced as a true member of their family. He loved sports and was an avid golfer. Woody was a noble and gentle soul who took life in stride and always had a kind word for all. He loved his family, friends, colleagues, and his music (especially his guitar) and treasured them all deeply. He was genuinely loved by all who knew him. Woody was a true gentleman and loyal friend who leaves behind a legacy of honesty and integrity. The 'toughest teenager in town' will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Woody is survived by his brother Frank Sprague Winship Jr., his four nieces, Sara, Ginger, Carrie, Eleanor "Macie" and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Thomas Dexter and Benjamin Wesley Winship.
