Obituary of Monica L. Barber

Monica Lucille McGuire Barber, "Monie", died peacefully at her home on Friday, October 5, 2018, comforted by her children.
Born in Albany on September 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Julia T. and Francis C. McGuire.
Monica lived in Delmar as a child and graduated from Bethlehem Central High School.  She loved growing up with her siblings and always followed after her big brothers Jack and Larry. She married Raymond W. Barber. Jr. in 1946 and raised her family in the Capital District area. She worked for New York Telephone Company, then as a nurse's aide for many years in the Barnwell Center Nursing Home in Valatie, NY  and the Guilderland Center Nursing Home.   She was known as the most caring, gentle and respectful caregiver.  Monie later earned her L.P.N. while living in Kingston  NY. Upon retirement, she and Ray moved to New Port Richey, FL  in 1982 and then later to Port St. Lucie to be close to their son, Michael where they enjoyed visits from the grandchildren who especially loved swimming in their pool.  After her husband's passing, she moved back to her childhood town of Delmar to live with her daughter Christine.  She loved working in her yard, reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, knitting, Masterpiece Theatre and her chocolates.
She was the loving mother of Michael F. Barber of Port St. Lucie. FL, Christine A. Barber of Delmar,  Raymond W. Barber III of Altamont, and Deborah M. Jackson of Albany; grandmother of Brian and Ian (Miosotis) Jackson, Meegan Herrarte,  Cassandra and Sarah Barber; great grandmother of Brian and Bennett Jackson,  Dalhia Herrarte, Morgan Igler, Mercedes and Madden Walters.  She has several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond W. Barber, Jr, her siblings Mary Fournier, John "Jack" McGuire, Laurence McGuire, Jeanne Scott, James McGuire, and her many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Monica enjoyed a lifetime of friendship with Joan Deragon, Peggy Powell, the late Helen Roach and the late Mary Smith.
Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, 310 So. Manning Blvd., Albany 12208, who provided loving support and comfort in her final days.
