Obituary of Kenneth B. Lezatte

GLENMONT – Kenneth "Lou" Lezatte, 87, of Glenmont passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018. Born December 11, 1930 in Coxsackie, he was the son of the late Captain Grant B. and Helen G. Lezatte. He was a graduate of Coxsackie-Athens Central School, Class of 1948. Husband of Carol A. Lezatte for 62 years, they were married in September of 1956. Lou was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean War from January 1951 through November of 1954 as a quartermaster-signalman. He enjoyed his many naval reunions that he and Carol attended. He was employed for many years for the Hooper Holmes Bureau in various management positions. He changed careers in mid-life and entered into security and private investigative business for the Wackenhut Corporation from Florida. He retired in 1986 due to chronic knee problems. Lou worked for Wackenhut locally as a branch manager, working his way up to Regional Vice President while working from Miami, FL with control of the entire Northeastern U.S. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1040, Delmar plus an organization known as "The Grumps" and also "NESCOT". Lou was a veteran member of the Selkirk Fire District, serving from 1963 to present at Selkirk #2 in Glenmont. He was the former Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the fire district plus a social member of Elsmere Fire Co. A. Lou was a very active individual and very competitive in whatever he did, remaining that way into his senior years. He enjoyed horseshoes and dart leagues. Bad knees and all, he still continued to play golf in local leagues. He was also well known for riding his Harley Davidson that he referred to as "Lemon Ice". He rode and attended rallies with his family members and many cycling friends. Probably best known in the late 1960's and 1970's for his ability as a pitcher in fast pitch softball leagues, Lou played in most all the night leagues around the Capital District. As a pitcher, he was always in demand, again loving the competition and challenge of being one of the best. Surviving in addition to his wife, Carol, are his son, Louis of Glenmont, son, Keith and wife, Chris of Feura Bush, daughter, Shannon of Maryland, two granddaughters, Kasin and Kamryn Lezatte of Feura Bush, two grandsons, Kenneth and Kale (Emily) and their daughter Kooper. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Good Samaritan Health Care Center for the compassion and kindness shown to Lou and his family. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 pm Friday, September 7th at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. A graveside service will be held 10 am Saturday, September 8th at Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie. Immediately following the interment, all are invited to join the family at the American Legion Post 1040, 16 W. Poplar Dr., Delmar on Saturday at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
