Obituary of Carol M. Broderick

Carol Morey Broderick, 82, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, April 10, 2023 in her home after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born in Albany, NY on February 23, 1941 and raised in Nassau, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Elsie (File) Morey.  She graduated from Columbia High School in 1959 and Albany Business College in 1961.  Carol was employed by Callanan Industries for 15 years as the medial office manager of Dr. Ira D. LeFevre and also as a teacher’s assistant for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District for 17 years.   After her working career, she cherished her role of being the Director of the Ventures Church Food Pantry at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem where she was a longtime member.  Carol loved the outdoors, she took pride in her many gardens and was also a standing member of the National Audubon Society.  A naturally giving person, she contributed to multiple charities around the world.  Carol had been a Delmar resident for the past 25 years and previously resided in Selkirk for 35 years.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Daniel W Broderick; her children, Daniel W Broderick Jr., who resides in Hong Kong and Deborah L. (Gary) Valentine who resides in Wilton, CT; granddaughter, Sarah A. Valentine of Norwalk, CT; sister, Joyce Newkirk; brother, Terrell J. Morey; brother-in-law, Edward Broderick; sister-in-law, Jane Broderick; and nephews, John Broderick, James Broderick, Andrew Newkirk and Ryan Morey.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brother-in-law, Franklin Jay Newkirk and sister- in- law, Lynn R Broderick.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 18 from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar.  A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 19 at First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, Selkirk.  Those who wish may send a remembrance in her name to First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, 38 Church Rd., Selkirk, NY 12158 or St. Peter’s ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY  12205.
