Bernard and I served together in governance roles for many years on the American Bar Association Labor & Employment Law Section and in the ABA’s House of Delegates. He was one of only a handful of arbitrators who came out of high level union leadership roles whom I would recommend to my management clients. He was smart, knowledgeable, fair and kind. He will be sorely missed…

Bob and I were neighbors with Bernard and Nanette for many years! They greeted us when we first moved into our home and from that time kept us current on their two sons. We enjoyed conversations with him often in his yard or ours!!
We are saddened to learn of his passing and are sorry that distance prevents us from being at his service.
Much love from Bob and Charletta!

Although I never met Mr. Ashe, as a longtime NYSUT employee, I've long heard of his distinguished reputation. What a trailblazer and an inspiration! I extend my deepest condolences to the Ashe family.

Dear Nannette, Walter, David and Family,
I am so saddened to hear of Bernard's passing. At a key point in my life, we spent a magical evening together in Old Jaffa on his visit to Israel. His words of wisdom, which I needed to hear so badly at that time, still reverberate. Those words still influence my decisions in life. Bernard projected genuine kindness and a tremendous generosity of spirit. I am forever grateful for having known him. May his memory always be a blessing.

We have lost a friend and the world has lost a jewel. Bernard was a modest man who didn’t like to talk about himself, saying you can look it up, but he had an enormous amount to be proud of. He changed everything he touched for the better. Not long after we met, I invited Bernard to a meeting of a committee of lawyers where a few quietly put questions changed our course. But we knew Bernard as a friend, a lovely, thoughtful, caring man. We will always miss him but always feel blessed to have known him. Our most heartfelt condolences to Nanette and his family.
