Obituary of Ariel Goodrich

DELMAR - Ariel L. Goodrich, age 78, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011 at St. Peters Hospital surrounded by his family. Born August 7, 1933 in Albany, N.Y., his parents were Elmer M. Goodrich and Margaret E. (Schramm) Goodrich. He graduated from Albany High School in 1952. During High School he went to work in the mailroom at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, retiring in 1993 after 42 years of company service as the Director of Subscriber Accounting. He was a Lieutenant for Volunteer Fire Police, Elsmere Fire Department and held a past seat on Board of Directors Good Samaritan Nursing Home. He was active in serving at Bethlehem Lutheran Church as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and a member of the Choir. He held numerous volunteer Treasurers positions: High Rollers Bowlers League for the Disabled, Christian Music Ministries of Feura Bush, Bethlehem Central High School Men's Association, Bethlehem Babe Ruth Baseball League, and Sunday School Teachers Association of the Atlantic District. He enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf, and camping with his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Susan (Hummer) Goodrich;; daughters Melode (Richard) Gall, Nadine (Michael) Reilly, Susan (Jack) Moak; sons Robin (Nancy) Goodrich, Scott Goodrich, Kyle (Sandy) Goodrich; a brother, George (Robin) Goodrich; sisters Pamela Cross III and Darryl (Edward) Jarvis; ten grandchildren, Christian, Daniel, Heather, Chris, Lisa, Courtney, Haley, Ben, Allen & Andrew; and two great grandchildren, Rylee & Conner. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar on Thursday, September 8th from 4 to 7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9th at 11 am at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 85 Elm Ave, Delmar. Interment will be at Bethlehem Cemetery, 286 Kenwood Ave, Delmar following the church service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Mohawk Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204; or, The Elsmere Volunteer Fire Department, Company A, 15 West Poplar Dr., Delmar, NY 12054.
