Obituary of David Parr

David Parr of Slingerlands, 102, passed away in St. Peter's Hospital on February 15, 2023. David was married for 69 years to his beloved wife Jeanne, who left us in 2017.  He is survived by his sons Brian Parr of Delmar and Christopher Parr of Albany.  David greatly appreciated Dorothy Roohan’s assistance and friendship.

Born on August 29, 1920,  David was a native of Rochester, New York and the son of Arthur Parr and Claire Reagan Parr.  He was predeceased by his brother James Parr.  David served in the 100th Infantry Division of the U.S Army on the European front during World War II.  He was awarded the Bronze Star and Good Conduct medals for his service.  Following the war, David received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.  He later received a master’s degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University.  Following his graduation from Cornell, David worked for Wilson Sullivan Realty in Albany.  David subsequently  spent the majority of his career working as a budget examiner for the state of New York.  After retiring from the state, David worked for the Association of Colleges and Universities.  He resided in the town of Bethlehem for more than 70 years and spent his final 18 years in the Beverwyck retirement community.

David was an enthusiastic baseball fan, who regularly watched both New York teams.  He coached his sons in TriVillage Little League baseball. David was an avid runner for 20 years in his post-working years and enjoyed competing in Hudson Mohawk Road Runner races.  David treasured many enjoyable family vacations on Cape Cod.  In their retirement years, David and Jeanne loved to  attend concerts at Tanglewood and escaped to Florida for winter vacations.  David also found fulfillment by volunteering to provide income tax preparation assistance to the elderly.

There was a private ceremony prior to internment in the Bethlehem Cemetery.  On March 28th at 11 a.m. in the Van Cortland room at Beverwyck, a public celebration of David’s life will be held on the date of David and Jeanne’s 75th wedding anniversary.
