Obituary of Martha A. Keens

Martha Ann ‘Marcy’ Keens passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10^th, 2023 with her family by her side after a long illness.

Martha began her career as an elementary school teacher in South Colonie and taught there for 8 years. She left to raise her children and work on her family’s farm in Catskill, NY. Later she returned to teaching at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic School where she taught elementary school for 17 years.

Martha was born and raised in Catskill, NY, the daughter of Ida Malachowska and Stephen Ruzzi. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert; her son Robert (Kellie); her daughter Elizabeth Parent (Jeff); her five grandchildren, Nicholas and Jacob Keens and Renee, Stephen and Natalie Parent; her siblings, Rose Tice (Richard) and Stephen Ruzzi (Donna) and beloved cousin Elaine Whitaker (Fred).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am, Thursday, February 16, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl. Delmar.  The family will receive visitors Wednesday evening from 4 to 7pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar. 

Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
