Obituary of Mary Theresa Hooper
Mary Theresa Roche Hooper "Theresa", born November 13, 1929, of Glenmont, NY, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023, in her home with her beloved family surrounding her.
Theresa was a creative and passionate artist, an avid lover of nature and the world around her, and a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Theresa was an inquisitive person who loved to learn. Her children will tell you that she was a "well-informed" 93-year-old. Theresa was married to the love of her life, John R. Hooper for 62-years. She was a devout mother of 6, grandmother to 19, and great-grandmother to 16. She attended the Academy of the Holy Names, and New York State College for Teachers (SUNY-Albany) in Albany, NY. Theresa worked for, and retired from, SUNY-Albany's Registrar's Office in 1995 where she loved meeting and helping students.
Theresa is preceded in death by her parents, Leo P. and Mary J. Roche; her late husband John R. Hooper, her sister Catherine Beigel, and her brother Peter Roche. She is survived by her sisters Bella McCarroll and Anne Malone; her children: Mary Catherine Lodico (Robert), Nora Hooper (Rick Wielgorecki), Carol Hooper-Cahill (Brian Cahill), John J. Hooper (Mary), Claire McDermott (Michael), and Robert Hooper (Cindy), and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Theresa's phenomenal neighbors and dear friends: Glenn and Michele Vadney and Maureen Carty; and her loving caregivers: Margery, Pam, Mary, Iris, and Alberta. We would also like to thank nurses Caitlin and Angel from Hospice Care. Their kindness and compassion was greatly appreciated during this hard journey.
