There are so many memories it fills maybe a quarter of my brain. From my first classes in the early eighties he and Judy and Don just allowed anyone interested in what they were doing into their lives. From Richmondtown Restoration tours of every nook and cranny of the village to every tool and box of antique thing he owned. I learned to sharpen a chisel properly in his basement and a moment after he showed us how to get the perfect french polish on a domed lid box. This experience was replete with stories of the “Bluehairs” hampering progress at Richmond town and the time he overloaded the big cannon there with blackpowder and blew out a few windows…And so it went for for more than 10 years! Somehow they all managed to include almost everybody that knew them right to their last days. I am so grateful for this “Great Trio” that mpacted so many of us in such a big way. -Aren Carpenter

Tom and I met Billy and Judy through EAIA and realized how devoted they were to preserving early American crafts and the works of skilled craftsmen. Billy was one of those in his high-quality tin smithing. Billy would bring one of his creations to every annual EAIA meeting auction as a donation to raise money for the organization. I am the proud owner of many of his items because I refused to be outbid. As I jokingly told Billy in May, I could open a Billy McMillen Museum with all his masterpieces I acquired!

I took a tinsmith class in 1980 with Bill. It was an amazing experience and I will always cherish the time, effort and knowledge he put into the class. Bill was amazing! Please accept my sincere condolences. Florinda Mattia, Staten Island NY
