Obituary of Joseph J. Garcia

Joseph John Garcia passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at his home in East Greenbush, NY. 

Joe was born on July 1, 1934, in Witherbee, NY, the son of Grace Mussari Garcia and Centerio Garcia. His parents had a great influence on his life.  Like his mother, who was Italian, Joe enjoyed making his world-famous lasagna. His father, Centerio, immigrated from Spain and passed onto his son an incredibly strong work ethic. Joe received his master’s degree at SUNY Albany and taught at Philip Schuyler School in Albany during his early career.  He later owned and ran a successful construction company in Menands, NY until his retirement.  Joe was a US Army Korean War Veteran. 

Joe is survived by his wife Audrey J. Garcia, his children Joseph J. Garcia of Moriah, NY, Jana M. Perrino of Delmar, NY, stepchildren Sheila (Terry) Butcher of Jensen Beach, Florida, Sandra (Curtis) Kendall of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, grandchildren Tiffany (Stefan) Shaffer of Papillion, Nebraska, Angelina (Sammy) Perrino of Delmar, NY, Shawahna (Josh) West of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Zachary (Meghan) Kendall of Fulshear, Texas, Brooke (Wood) Faugue of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, 7 great grandchildren, sister Sandra (Paul) Mazzotte of Mineville, NY.  He was predeceased by his son James (Bo) M. Garcia, his parents, brothers Simon J. Gutierrez, and Thomas J. Garcia and sister-in-law Gaynelle Gutierrez.

A committal service will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

Following the service there will be a private family gathering at The Thirsty Owl at 184 S. Broadway Ave. in Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Joseph J. Garcia to a favorite charity.
