Obituary of Rose Anne Tassone

Rose Anne Tassone died on July 19, 2022. She was born on April 30, 1932 in Gortloney, Ireland.

Rose is survived by her husband, Salvatore Tassone, her son Sal Tassone (Karen), son-in-law Patrick MacKrell, her grandchildren Kyle, Nicole, James, Keagan, Leslie and many brothers, sisters, family and friends in America and Ireland.  She was predeceased by her daughter Peggy and her grandchild Meghan.

Rose was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family will remember her always for her faith, kind heart, quick humor, and honesty, for which she was truly one of a kind.

Her loyal and loving partnership with her husband, Salvatore, saw them through 64 years of marriage. Above all else, Rose considered her greatest accomplishment to be her two children, Peggy and Sal, who she loved and adored. She showed the same unwavering love to her grandchildren who referred to her affectionately as ‘Granny’. Rose also devotedly looked after the family dog, Bailey, whose constant friendship and love served as a blessing in recent years.

After immigrating from Ireland to Newark, N.J., Rose’s hard working, ambitious spirit led her to be the owner of Penguin Ice Cream in Altamont, N.Y. for 20 years. She worked there as head chef alongside her son Sal.Through her work, Rose found many life-long friends and fondly spoke of ‘the Penguin days’ often.

One of Rose’s favorite pastimes was shopping and spending time with her daughter and best friend, Peggy. The family takes great comfort in knowing that they are joined together in heaven.

An avid cook and caretaker, Rose gathered the family together weekly for Sunday dinners and found joy in feeding anyone that walked through her doors, including preparing daily after-school snacks for her grandchildren and their friends. She found immense joy in sitting, listening, and laughing with them about their stories from the day.

Rose looked forward to daily phone calls with her friends and family, particularly her sisters Peggy and Liz, and loving nephews Dermot and Gus, to whom she acted as a reliable confidant and trusted advisor.

Rose was a blessing to all who knew her and will live on in our hearts always.
