I was a student at SUNY Albany in my freshman year in 1974. I never took a class with Prof. Pohlsander but I was an amateur fan of Thucydides, and of Roman Empire history. I looked up the different professors in that area and found Prof. Pohlsander’s name. I went up to his office on a lark, I was 16, he was generous with his time and spoke with me for like an hour about the books, and about my interests, he was so enthusiastic and so knowledgeable. He didn’t pressure me to take any of his classes . . . I wish that during that conversation he had done so. In retrospect that one single conversation meant a lot to me.

I was sad to learn of Professor Pohlsander's passing. He was one of the most riveting lecturers of my college years. Never before was it so compelling to make it to an 8 am class. His enthusiasm for the subject of Ancient Greece and Rome was captivating. He was such a kind man too!
That was 35 years ago. I cherish the memories of him.

My deepest condolences to the Pohlsander family. I knew Dianne especially while in high school. I knew everyone in the family was very smart but I am even more amazed and impressed after reading the obituary. Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful video as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

I was one of Hans’ physical therapy staff at Spring Mill. He was a wonderful man and I was amazed and in awe looking at the pictures on his walls and seeing the books he wrote that he showed me. He was such a hard worker even as time went on and getting around was so much tougher. I’m honored to have met such a wonderful man. May he Rest In Peace next to his beautiful wife. Thinking of his family at this time. Such a lovely video you shared. Thank you so much as I love getting to know my patients a little more through these videos. God Bless. Sincerely, Marybeth McNally, Physical Therapist Assistant.

I send my deepest sympathy to Hans' family for the loss of so great a man! He and his wife Navee were always so kind to me and I loved working with them in Church the few times we got to do so. They remembered me and always greeted me and were wonderful examples of Christ and the way we should treat others, regardless of how accomplished they were when I was not even close to their stature in so many areas! I truly loved and appreciated their influence on me and all those around them. Hans' great example of kindness continued even after the loss of his beloved Navee. I know they are rejoicing to be together to continue to work for Our Savior and prepare for His return when He shall set all things in order!
Sincerely, Hans' and Navee's friend Cindy Gabriel

Uncle Acki and Aunt Navee were wonderful people. They even accompanied my new wife and me on our honeymoon to Germany -- at our special request. Acki visited me a few times in Utah, and I always enjoyed our chats about family history, languages and his love for Jesus Christ.

I remember Prof. Pohlsander from the University at Albany. He was a professor in the Classics Department and I was a secretary in the English Department. His office was a few doors down from mine. He was a true gentleman and scholar, who always had a kind word for everyone. He was highly respected by his colleagues and students alike. My condolences to his family.

Hans was a scholar, a faithful disciple of Christ, a loving father and husband and a diligent and caring friend. It was a great honor for four of the stake presidents who served with him to celebrate his 90th birthday. Hans' love and devotion will always be an example to us.
