Obituary of Sharon Fisher

DELMAR - Sharon VanHensbergen Fisher, 62, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at home with her husband by her side. She was diagnosed with ALS on December 23, 2009 and bravely fought this battle with determination, elegance and courage. Sharon was born in Albany to Edwin VanHensbergen and the late Marion Dennis VanHensbergen. She married Kenneth Fisher in 1970. They raised three children in their home on Van Wies Point in Glenmont. Although always committed first and foremost to raising her three boys, Sharon spent over 20 years as the Recycling Coordinator for the Town of Bethlehem. She was also a member of Delta Phi Sigma Sorority, as a graduate of the college of Saint Rose. Sharon received many awards ranging from a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NYS Association of Reduction, Reuse and Recycling, Inc. to being the best Euchre player in town. Sharon is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, Kenneth; her father Edwin VanHensbergen; her cherished children, David and Diane Fisher, Matthew Fisher and Zoe McKee, and Jonathan and Annie Fisher. She is also survived by her very special grandchildren, Abby, Zachary, Austin and Emelia; her sisters, Margaret Massas and Jean Naples and her brothers, Robert VanHensbergen and Thomas Van Hensbergen. The family especially would like to thank the Community Hospice of Albany and the ALS staff for their phenomenal support and help during this difficult time. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, on Thursday June 9th from 4 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10th at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Sharon and her family request that donations be made to the ALS Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205.
