So sorry to hear this. Scott was one of the kindest people I have ever known. We studied together and his maturity kept me grounded. This world needs more people like Scott. I hope he is playing piano in a better place.

I just found out that he died. We ate lunch together nearly every day at Albany Law School. I 'm not a real sociable guy, but he was my best law school buddy. We were a few years older than most of the students, so that's why we initially hung together. I liked being with him. He was a happy fellow with great depth.

So sorry for the loss to your family. Scott, as we knew him, was involved with the UU Society in Albany for many years. He was unfailingly smiling, cheerful to those he met, just a fine guy to hang with. His piano skills were terrific. But I remember him too for a bit of generosity he directed our way. The son of a neighbor, a teenager named Theo Hill, was also a piano player, and we approached Scott about helping us set up a benefit concert in the church Sanctuary, for Theo to play the Steinway grand for an audience from the community. He walked us through the process, mentored Theo for the concert, and it was a lovely time. Theo got to perform in front of a new audience. He has gone on to major in Jazz Performance at SUNY Purchase, join the jazz scene in NY City, cut several CD/Albums, perform internationally in Asia, Turkey, Europe, and now lives in Costa Rica. I am sure that Scott contributed to this wonderful success story, and am sure there are many others over the years. The photo accompanying his obituary is exactly how I remember him, smiling and open to some enjoyment. Meg and Paul, our thoughts are with you, know that Scott is well remembered.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Scott was so kind, intelligent, talented and I feel blessed to have him as my friend for 42 years. I will always smile when I remember spending time with him talking, laughing and playing music together and shed a tear for his life cut short. I was so proud of him for who he was and what he did with his life. An accomplished attorney, a brilliant, sophisticated musician and composer and a loving Husband, to Meg, Dad to Paul & Max, and the great friend he was to myself and so many others. His wonder and curiosity about music was boundless as was his love for his family. I love my friend and will miss him forever, My heart goes out to Meg and Paul, Kevin, Julie, Jeff and spouses and all who knew him who are grieving his sad loss.

Scott, thank you for your music and your work on behalf of NYS' environment. I had the pleasure of working with Scott while he was counsel to DEC's Office of Hearings and Mediation Services. He was the consummate professional, an excellent attorney and a compassionate human. I am listening to his CD now and the song "We Gather Together" seems entirely appropriate at this time. I confess to being a Bassinson groupie. Many tears will be shed over the next several weeks or months due to the horror of Covid 19 Scott's music will lift us up and make it impossible not to think about our futures and the after life. Shedding tears for a life lost too soon. Peace.

Scott: You are truly one of the most talented people - both from a musical and legal perspective - that I have ever known. Also just a great guy. You were always easy to talk to and philosophize with. Thanks for all that you have taught me. Be well my friend.

Leave it to Scott, who taught so many of us so much, to bring us together in this time of isolation with one more lesson about how important it is to live with empathy and look out for each other. Prayers of peace for all who knew and loved him and deepest thanks to him for helping us be better people, Larry Schumaker

I only had the opportunity to play with Scott one time and it was a joy. It was a joy to play his wonderful arrangements - so expertly notated. His playing was completely right and tasteful as well. Mostly I enjoyed talking with Scott. I'm sure had we had the chance to play together more we would have become great friends. Sometimes in life you meet people that you have a short connection with yet a profound experience with or feeling from. Scott struck me like that - completely genuine, humble as could be. In short one of the nicest people I think I have ever met - and it was only one time! I can't say that about a lot of people but I can about Scott. May he rest in peace.

I grew up down the street from Scott’s family in Dellwood. Our parents were great friends and Scott’s mother was a very special friend to my grandmother who lived with us. I have such wonderful memories of playing with Scott and Jeff when we were kids. Even if I always got stuck being the nurse when we played army and had to wait in the carport for someone to get “wounded”! My deepest sympathies to Scott’s wife and son as well as Julie Ann, Kevin, and Jeff. My heart is with all of you.
