Obituary of Helen Montysko

ALBANY: Helen Margaret Montysko, 93, died peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday February 26, 2014 at the St. Peter's Hospice Inn surrounded by her loving family. Born in Albany, NY on May 20, 1920, Helen was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Keegan O'Donnell. Helen attended Albany High School and on August 6, 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph William Montysko who predeceased her after 62 years of loving marriage. After raising her children, Helen worked as the Head Chef for the Convent of the St. Anne's Institute in Albany until her retirement in 1985. Helen loved her trips to Cape Cod and Maine and especially her walks with Joseph along the Marginal Way. Helen is survived by her children, Joseph Montysko and his wife Gail of Fla, Carol Crossman and her fiancé Robert Bixby of Conn., John Montysko and his wife Sandra of Conn., Edward Montysko and his wife Sarah of Schenectady (who provided Helen a comfortable and joyful home for many years), Michael Montysko and his wife Deborah of Colonie and Robert Montysko and his wife Marguerite of Latham. Helen is also survived by her brother John O'Donnell and his wife Betty of Troy; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Montysko, her son, William Montysko, and her brother, Edward "Bud" O'Donnell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday 9:30 AM at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. The family would like to thank the staff at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital for their gentle care.
