Obituary of F. Joynt

DELMAR - Francis William (Bill) Joynt III, 74, left us on October 7th, 2013, with his beloved family at his side. Born on December 25, 1938 in Rome, NY, he was the son of the late Francis William and Mary Katherine (Eiffe) Joynt. Bill was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy in Rome, NY, and proudly attended Niagara University on an ROTC scholarship. Following college, he deferred his military service in order to earn his J.D. at St. John's University School of Law. Bill then served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps for six years, with much of that time spent teaching and providing legal counsel at the United States Military Academy (West Point). During those years, he also earned his L.L.M. from the New York University School of Law. After completing his military service commitment in July 1970, Bill moved his young family to Albany, NY in order to join a start-up company known as Ayco, as one of its first professional employees. Under the guidance of founder Jim Conway, and along with his partners/friends Barry Hamerling, John Breyo and Peter Heerwagen, he helped build and lead a nationwide financial counseling practice which today has nearly 1,400 associates. While Bill officially retired in 1998, he couldn't stay away from The Ayco Company for long, and returned to work part-time in 2001. Until the time of his death, he continued to be involved in an area of Ayco which provides financial counseling to the families of recently deceased individuals. Throughout his life, Bill was actively involved in the Catholic Church, most recently at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar. He also held various volunteer leadership positions in the Northeast Chapter of The Arthritis Foundation. More than anything, Bill enjoyed gathering and spending time with his large extended family, and his many friends. In particular, he loved his summers at "the yellow house" on Lake George with our family, the Harvey family, and the Niagara Crew. Bill is survived by: his loving wife Margaret Mary (Breier) Joynt, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 8, 2013; his children Patrick (Theresa) Joynt of Guilderland, Mary Kay (Christopher) Sloan of Somers, CT, Michael (Elizabeth) Joynt of Clifton Park, Meaghan Joynt of New York, NY, and Liam (Jennifer) Joynt of Jersey City, NJ; and, his brother James Joynt of Nantucket, MA. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Lynley, Anya, Kelsey, Matthew, Amanda, Thomas, Danny, Lauren, Anna, Jackson, and Stella. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Paul John Joynt. Our family would like to thank Dr. Richard Lavigne, Colleen Califano, all the medical personnel who cared for Bill, and Community Hospice, as well as the many friends who provided comfort, company, and meals during his last months. Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 10 from 3 to 7 PM at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 11 at 9:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to: The Niagara University School of Nursing Scholarship Program, Niagara University, NY 14109, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar, NY 12054 or the charity of your choice.
