Obituary of Laurence MacDowell

DELMAR - Laurence E. "Larry" MacDowell, 66, died on Friday August 23, 2013 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Albany on December 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Madah (Taylor) MacDowell. He retired after 25 years working as a surgical supply salesperson for Stryker Corporation. A lifelong Delmar resident, Larry was well known for his wit and personality, which made him a very popular and beloved friend, neighbor and colleague. An upbeat and phenomenal spirit, Larry lived his life with gusto and a smile. Larry's joy was his family and he loved traveling to visit his daughters and grandchildren. He loved his girls, coaching them, supporting them and applauding their every accomplishment. His grandchildren held his heart in their hands and he indulged their every whim. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Yankees, and enjoyed golfing with his friends from all across the country. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Roberta B. MacDowell; daughters, Leslie F. Bennett and Sarah L. Chagnon (Christopher); grandchildren, Bodhi L. and Bella S. Bennett; siblings, Dr. Richard T. MacDowell (Barbara), Judith A. Teitelbaum (Stuart), Jeannie M. MacDowell and William B. MacDowell (Laurie); and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Dr. David Shaffer and the staff at NYOH for the support and excellent care that Larry received. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Burial will be private at the request of the family in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. Those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to the Albany Medical Center Foundation, 43 New Scotland Ave. MC 119, Albany, NY 12208.
