Obituary of Roy Davies

DELMAR - Roy Sherwood Davies was born June 17, 1947 to Hope Hazelton Davies and Roy F Davies in Albany, NY. and entered into the arms of his loving Lord on July 15, 2013. Raised in Coeymans, NY, Roy graduated from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central and UAlbany. In 1969, he married Linda Pilhofer and then served his country in the US Army 1st Cavalry Division, spending a year in Vietnam. Roy was employed at Farm Family Insurance Companies for 37 years and was proud to be a part of such a wonderful company. Prior to moving to Delmar, Roy was active at the Congregational Christian Church in Ravena and was also a Boy Scout Leader for several years. In 1984, Roy joined the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was an active member, especially enjoying his role as Financial Secretary for over 25 years and singing in the church's choir for decades. He also served on Mission Trips at a local, national, and international level. Roy's most important role was that of husband, father, and grandfather. He joyfully and faithfully shared a love of Shakespeare and the Roches with his daughter, Cheryl, and love of sports with his son, Brian, coaching Brian's teams and attending sporting events with him. As "Pop Pop," he attended countless games, recitals, and activities as well as playing lovingly and patiently with all six of his beloved grandchildren. Among Roy's many legacies was his quiet strength, his deep compassion, his unswerving loyalty, and his love of life and new adventures. His ultimate legacy was a life lived for Christ both in words and actions, planting seeds of faith in countless others. Roy was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, Len Pilhofer. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Daniel) Libutti of Delmar, and son Brian (Elizabeth) of Grayslake, IL. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Michaela, Jenna, and Alec of Delmar and Kate, Megan, and Luke Kendall Roy of Grayslake and his siblings Barbara (Kenneth) Oscar and David (Heather) Davies and sister-in-law Kathryn Pilhofer as well as several nieces and nephews including Leonard and Eric (Tammie) Pilhofer. Special thanks to our beloved Dr. Laura Lambert of UMASS Medical Center for her care and compassion. The family would also like to thank Community Hospice, especially Susan and Joe. Friends may call on Thursday, July 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 85 Elm Avenue, Delmar, and a Celebration of Life Service also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Friday, July 19 at 10 am with interment to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
