Obituary of Richard Wooster

DELMAR- Richard S. Wooster, 82, passed away on September 28, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Glen Cove, New York, he was the son of the late Harold and Hilda (Barnes) Wooster. He is predeceased by his brother Chuck. He grew up in the Pine Hills section of Albany and on State Street. Richard cherished his childhood memories of summers spent at Blair House farm in Cherry Plain. He was a proud alumnus of Albany Academy ('47) where he made lifelong friendships. Richard attended Yale University and worked in the banking and mortgage industry for forty years. He especially took pride in assisting families in attaining their dreams of home ownership. Richard was a dry-witted, eloquent speaker and toastmaster. His passions included sailing, bluegrass and dixieland music, Pete Seeger and the banjo, the New York Giants, Labradors, reading (especially James Thurber and A.A.Milne), beaches, his Irish heritage and his trips to Ireland. He treasured his family and his visits with his children, grandchildren, sisters, and his nieces and nephews. Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara, and their children John (Nancy), Peter (Connie), Susan (David) and Charles (Debbie). He leaves many happy memories with his nine grandchildren: Corey, Laura, Sarah, Sam, Owen, Stuart, Meghan, Henry and Phoebe. He is also survived by his beloved sisters Anne Bedell Smith and Martha Weissberger. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Tuesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar.
