Yvonne M. Simpson

Albany NY- Yvonne M. Simpson “Mimi”, 86 of Albany passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, September 2, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Lura Ruland McCarthy. 

 She was born in Brooklyn on March 19, 1938. She met the love of her life and future husband Gordon Simpson after they were set up on a blind date by her aunt. They were happily married for 66 years and spent many years residing in Greenville, NY. 

 Yvonne worked many years at Greenville Central School in the business office. She also worked at Christian Brothers Academy and Maria College in many different roles. Although she enjoyed working, the most important thing in her life was her family. She was heavily immersed in her only grandson Tyler’s life. She enjoyed attending every single one of his sporting events for both soccer and basketball and was always seen smiling and cheering him on. She was known as “Mimi” to many. Sunday family dinners, visiting, and adventures out were some of her favorite things to do. “Home is where your family is, wherever you are, it’s about the people you’re surrounded by.” She and Gordon lived by this mantra and was always content just having her family together. 

 Yvonne lost her husband Gordon this past January, 2024 and is survived by daughters Lisa Simpson of Albany and Sharon Fronte-Ellithorpe of Albany, husband Dana Ellithorpe, grandson Tyler Fronte and wife Katie Fronte. She is also survived by her sister in law, Debbie Downey, husband Matt Downey, niece Laura Danz, husband Tanner Danz and nephew Peter Downey, wife Ally Downey. Last and not least, her grand puppies Bailey, Lucy, and Chloe. 

 The family will receive visitors at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 10:30am- 12:00pm. Interment in Greenville Cemetery will follow. 

 In lieu of flowers donations in Yvonne’s memory, and in honor of her love for dogs, may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Albany, NY 12204.
