1934 — March 8, 2017

DELMAR - William Norton Reusswig, 82, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on March 8th due to complications during heart surgery. Born in NYC on Sept. 29, 1934, he was raised in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. He was the son of the late E. Norton Reusswig and Sarah Parshall Reusswig. He attended Ridgewood High School where he played on the tennis team. He attended Amherst College and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at Amherst, he was a member of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity and travelled Europe playing drums with the Delta Five Dixieland Band. He married Nancy Louise Lane in Norwich, Connecticut on Nov. 10, 1956. He served in the US Army in 1957, played drums with the US Army Corp Band and remained in the Army Reserves until 1963. He received a Master's degree in Food Distribution from Cornell University in 1959. Following graduate school, "Nort" and Nancy settled in Glenmont, NY where he started working for Grand Union Co. as assistant manager. He ultimately found his career in sales in the floor covering industry for over 40 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Selkirk Fire Department, President of the Tri-Village Little League, President of the Glenmont Elementary PTA, a singer for the Barbershop Quartet, and drummer for the "Bureaucats" big band. Nort and Nancy relocated to Slingerlands, NY in 2000. William was an active drummer in the community, playing for various groups including Holy Name's Academy -Theatrical Performances, The Friendship Singers, and the Tri-County Banjo Band. He was a long-time member of the Men's Golf League at Normanside Country Club and Bowling League at Del Lanes in Delmar, NY. During their retirement years, Bill and Nancy travelled world-wide with dear friends. Bill was a huge supporter of Camp Dudley in Westport, NY where four generations of Reusswigs attended each summer for years. He was also a long-term communicant and choir member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Delmar, NY. William is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Christine Reusswig. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lane Reusswig, his children, Dr. Peter Norton Reusswig (Emy) of CO, Cynthia Reusswig Scheffler (Guy) of MN, David Lee Reusswig (Liz) of PA, and his grandchildren, Andrew, Michael and Nicholas Scheffler, Tyler and Blake Reusswig, and Emily and Sophie Reusswig. He is also survived by his dear brother-in-law Leman Lane. As for many campers, Camp Dudley was his second home and dear to his heart. He exemplified their motto "the other fellow first". Bill always lit up the room with his smile and his sense of humor. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and adored spending time with them all. He was extremely loved and will be sorely missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7pm on Sunday, April 2, at Applebee Funeral Home.
