William G. Lucas

1933 — October 24, 2021

The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Men wanted to be him, women wanted to be with him. William “Bill” George Lucas entered into his eternal life on October 24, 2021. His spirit is carried on by his wife of 17 years, Ellen Lucas, and two daughters, Cyndi Martin and Dawn Morrison. He was the loving and ever-spoiling grandfather of Cyndi’s daughters Miranda and Jessica; and Dawn and her husband Richard’s daughter, Morgan. He is also survived by his loving sister Marilyn, her children and spouses – Gloria and Ken, John and Lisa and their children.  He is also survived by his deceased brother Gus’s children and grandchildren. Bill is pre-deceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Marie. Bill devoted several years to the US Army in the Korean War, where he served as an MP and then Sergeant alongside his closest friend, and loving godfather to Cyndi, Frank Bornman.

He will be fondly remembered by his large, extended family and life-long friends who hail from and have dispersed to all across the country. Best known as “Luke”, “Billy”, “Papou”, “The Grand Poobah” “The Greek Tycoon”, his favorite and most important title was “Daddy”. Bill most loved playing the horses, spending time at OTB and Belmont Race Track. He was a connoisseur of ice cream, candy and soda. He enjoyed watching Mash, Sanford and Son, and the TCM channel. Bill loved to sing! He sang every. single. day and loved music.

His words of wisdom have benefitted us all, and could only come from the man who lived a hundred lifetimes – or so it seemed. In addition, we are blessed to have learned many valuable lessons, facts and “dad-isms” from Bill throughout his 88 years, among them:

Give to every single charity that asks.

He is the one who taught Frank Sinatra to sing.

Make the car dance by lightly tapping the brakes to the beat of the music.

Blow at the traffic light to make it turn green.

Do the crossword puzzle with a cup of coffee every morning. In pen.

Help anyone in need or any kind of trouble or dismay beyond their expectations, and never expect to be repaid.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 28th from 11 am to 12 noon at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 12 noon at the funeral home.
