William J. Griffiths, Jr. passed away at home in Slingerlands, NY on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025.

Bill’s cherished wife of 30 years, Annmarie (McKenney) Griffiths passed away in May 2023. Together they shared a wonderful loving marriage.

They also shared a love of their pups; Candy, Angel and Katie Marie.

Bill was born in Albany New York and was the beloved son of the late William and Elsie Griffiths, Sr.

He is survived by his brother Tom Griffiths (and his dear friend Joyce Woltman), his sister Terry Pishko (Chuck) and brother Roger Griffiths, Sr. (Gayle).

In addition he is survived by his nephews; Bill Bryant (Jessica), Rev. Roger Griffiths, Jr. (Tricia) and Michael Griffiths (Aja).

Bill is also survived by his grand-nephews, Gavin Bryant, Roger Griffiths, III, Leo Griffiths, Elliot Griffiths, Callum Griffiths and his grand-niece Elsie Griffiths.

Bill was a graduate of Albany High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College where he studied for his electrical career.

Bill spent his career working for the New York State Office of General Services as a Senior Stationary Engineer in charge of the electrical and mechanical systems, in different locations in the South Mall, which also included the Governor’s Mansion.

He was an active member of the Slingerlands Fire Department for 46 years and was the co-recipient of the Fireman of the Year award with his brother Rog in 1994.

He was a social member of the Elsmere Fire Department.

Bill also belonged to the Sons of the American Legion Post 1040.

As many of you know Bill loved to cook and served up many a meal at both the Slingerlands Fire Department and pavilion, as well as the American Legion Post 1040 and the Elsmere Fire Department.

He was well known for making his great Manhattan Clam Chowder especially for Slingerlands’ Memorial Day Picnics and for the Elsmere Fire Department’s Fish Frys.

Bill and Ann loved beaches, sun and water, vacationing many years on Cape Cod and enjoying their visits to St. John in the US Virgin Islands to see his Sis and her husband Chuck.

Bill also loved taking many fishing trips to Lake Ontario as well as ocean fishing trips from Port Judith, Rhode Island with Brother Rog and friends.

He was avid skier and enjoyed the numerous ski trips with the Elsmere Fire Department gang and trips skiing in Aspen, CO with Brother Tom.

Bill’s sense of humor, gentleness and kindness are also what he will be remembered for forever. Through the years we shared so many heartwarming and fun memories we will always hold close to our heart…especially the laughter.

The family would like to invite his friends to stop by at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood,Ave., Delmar on Tuesday, April 22nd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to celebrate his life.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
