DELMAR - Warren S. "Pete" Mead, 89, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Albany on August 7, 1922, he was the son of the late Warren J. and Alma (Gallup) Mead. For many years, he worked the Selkirk family farm which he inherited from his father. As a boy, Pete would go with his father to the Albany Farmer's Market and later had an egg and milk route. He was also a partner in M.D. Farms where they raised prize winning Brahman cows. In addition to farming, he worked for Owens Corning. Pete had been an avid square dancer in his earlier years and enjoyed bowling until the age of 87. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Marie B. Mead and a sister, Anne Mead.
He is survived by his three children, Marianne E. Kendrick and her husband, Cliff Wittman, Peter M. Mead and Stephen E. Mead and his partner, David DeNoble. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Eddy Village Green and Delmar Place for their excellent care and kindness shown to Pete.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Selkirk at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the House 6 Quality Life Fund, Eddy Village Green, Building 200, Pasinella Way, Cohoes, NY 12047.
