Albany - Virginia M.Hunt
Virginia “Ginny” M. Hunt, 86, died Monday, November 13, 2023 surrounded by her family’s love. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Virginia and Daniel Canning.
Ginny graduated from The Vincentian Institute in 1955. She was proud to start her working career at the NY Telephone Company, and eventually leaving there to work for her uncle as a Medical Assistant for 10 years. For 12 years she had the important job of raising her two daughters, before returning to work as the head Secretary for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, Pastoral Planning Department. She then furthered her career as an Administrative Assistant for the NYS Commission of Corrections. She went on to work for the NYS Senate, and then to her final career with the NYS Executive Chamber, working for Governor Pataki, until her retirement in 2006.
Virginia's story cannot be told without listing her many volunteer activities and giving ways including pastoral care, hospice care, ministering to the homebound, and singing with the Rainbow Ministry and other various church choirs.
She was the loving mother of Marybeth Buhrmaster (Jim), and Jennifer Hammond (Jeff), and special Gram to Allison and Jeffrey Hammond. She was the proud sister of Elizabeth “Betty” Allen, and aunt to her dear nephews. She had great memories of her summers with family on Lake George, and the many Sundays she and her sister Betty sang on their own local WOKO radio show. She is also survived by many cousins, and even more friends, many of whom considered her to be a second mother. Her friends and family will miss her kind heart, infectious smile, positive attitude and continuous service to those in need.
Friends and family are invited and may call Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar, with a memorial service to be offered at 1 p.m.
A private burial for the immediate family will be held on Friday November 17th.
Ginny spent her final years cared for by her special friend Sandra, and by the kind souls at the Teresian House in Albany. She would undoubtedly appreciate any donations that could be sent to the Teresian House Foundation - Life Enrichment Activities Department, 200 Washington Ave. Ext. Albany, NY 12203
