Victoria “Vicky” Monte Wicher, Ph.D. 1933 – 2020 WELLESLEY, MASS - Victoria Monte Wicher, 87 died August 22, 2020 at Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer’s Care in Wellesley Massachusetts. Victoria was born in Cordoba, Argentina and daughter of the late Manual Monte and Eusebia Oviedo de Monte. Victoria graduated from the University of Cordoba, where as Assistant Professor, she taught and directed a clinical laboratory at the Department of Pediatrics and Department of Biochemistry. In 1967, at invitation, she joined the Allergy Research Laboratory at Buffalo, N.Y. From 1969 to 1972 she was a staff member of the McMaster University, Department of Pediatrics, Hamilton Canada conducting research in Allergy. In 1972 she returned to Buffalo. She joined her husband Dr, Konrad Wicher at the Eire County Laboratories, Division of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology where they conducted research in infectious diseases. Dr. Monte Wicher, also taught medical and graduate students in the department of Microbiology, School of Medicine, SUNY in Buffalo. From 1979 to 1999 she was a Senior research Scientist at the Wadsworth Center, Albany N.Y. In this institution together with her husband they organized a very productive team conducting National Institute of Health supported research on AIDS and other infectious diseases. In her 44 years of marriage to Konrad Wicher she enjoyed on her spare time, entertaining her friends and family. She was an imaginative cook and an artist in presenting her food. Her empanadas were especially enjoyed by her grandsons. She liked gardening and homemaking which was visible in her beautiful home. She also enjoyed travelling which was also part of her work of presenting their team’s research publications at different Allergy and Immunology meetings around the world. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Konrad Wicher, her sisters Irma Monte de Mora, Dolores Monte de Biganzoli and her brothers Maximo Monte and Emilio Monte. She is survived by her sisters Norma Monte de Gomez and Filipa Monte de Torres and her nieces and nephews, who knew her as Tia Coca, in Cordoba, Argentina and Deltona, Florida, her step children Konradyna Falinska in Toronto Canada and Janusz Wicher in Boston Massachusetts and the grandchildren Jacob Falinski (Chicago), Roman Wicher and Erik Wicher (Boston)and her daughter-in-law, Maria Hansson-Wicher (Boston). Private ceremony will happen at the Bethlehem Cemetery.
