Thomas Waters

1940 — March 4, 2013

DELMAR - Thomas E. Waters, 72, passed away at home on March 4, 2013 following a long illness. He died as he lived, with dignity and serenity. His wife, Lois, survives and was at his side at the time of his passing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Edward (Gennie) and two grandchildren, Dean and Schuyler, on whom he doted. He is also survived by his mother Catherine, of Buffalo and Guilderland. His father, Edward A. Waters, passed away in 1992. Tom was born August 28, 1940 and raised in Buffalo, NY. He graduated from Canisius College and pursued graduate studies at Marquette University. He worked for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) with assignments in Columbus, Ohio where he and Lois met and married, and in Washington, DC. Tom and his family moved to the Capital District in 1976 where he held several administrative and management positions with FWHA. He retired in 1997 and then spent several following years as a consultant in real estate for infrastructure projects. After retirement, Tom enjoyed working as a volunteer driver for the Bethlehem senior transportation service. Tom had a long time interest in historic preservation and restored several houses in Albany's Hudson Park and Mansion neighborhoods. He was active in Historic Albany Foundation and several community organizations. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar. During the last ten years, Tom and Lois found great joy in extended visits to Ed and Gennie and the grandchildren. Trips were made to the Philippines, China and Taiwan where Ed was posted with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
