DELMAR - It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas J. Neary announces his passing on January 9th, 2018 at the age of 90 at his home. Tom will lovingly be remembered by his bride of 60 years Alice, and his sons Thomas and Patrick (Michele). He will also be greatly missed by his three grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan and Kevin, whom he adored.
Tom was a longtime member of the Bethlehem community, but was originally born in Manhattan and spent his childhood in Sunnyside, Queens. He spent many summers of his youth in Rockaway and, later on, Long Beach, N.Y. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and football Giants, the latter of which he held season tickets for 56 years.
Tom loved the game of golf and spent many a spring and summer morning playing at Normanside Country Club with dozens of friends. He was also an avid fan of the ponies, especially during the Saratoga meet, and his handicapping tips were always worth a listen. He had a superb sense of humor as evidenced by his joke telling ability, which was second to none.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, father in-law, grandfather, brother, brother in law, uncle and good friend to many. He will be remembered with love and laughter.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 14th at Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar from 3 to 6 pm. A funeral Mass will be held 9:30 am on Monday, January 15th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Delmar.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's memory to the Salvation Army, 20 S. Ferry St., Albany, NY 12202.
