Thomas M. Johnson

1948 — April 14, 2015

DELMAR- Thomas M. Johnson, age 67, of Delmar, New York, died suddenly after a short illness on April 14, 2015 at St Peter's Hospital, Albany, New York. Tom is survived by his wife, Rita, a brother, Larry Johnson (Janet), a sister-in-law, Michele Johnson – Karpovich (Anthony), and by several nieces and nephews in New Jersey. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Frank Glasheen (Karen), Lawrence Glasheen (Susan), Edgar Glasheen (Terilynn), sisters-in-law, Marie Kopcha, and Susan Cumo (Frank), and by many nieces and nephews in New York State and South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Johnson, and his brother John of New Jersey. Tom was born on March 19, 1948 in Riverside, New Jersey. His early education was completed in the Riverside/Delran area in New Jersey, and he graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor's degree in Finance. Immediately following his graduation, Tom began his 37 year career at General Electric Company. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Manager-Financial Analyst at the main plant of General Electric in Schenectady, New York. Tom was a loving husband, and a loyal friend to many. He loved, and was deeply involved in sports, both as a participant and as a fan. In his younger days, he was an active member of the Schenectady Reds Rugby Club, and the Medusa Snakes Old Boys' Rugby Club, and many softball teams. After he retired, he played in local golf leagues, and often rode his 35 year-old Schwinn bicycle in the surrounding neighborhoods. In addition, he was a vocal Red Sox fan. His family and friends will always remember him as a funny, and often times, delightfully officious gentleman. A wake is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, New York at 2 pm through 5 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tom's life. In keeping with Tom's retirement philosophy, no formal attire is required. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Tom may make a donation in his name to a charity of their choice.
