Suparmanto .

Suparmanto, 70, of Delmar passed away after complications from a heart transplant on September 20, 2021, at Westchester Medical Center.  Suparmanto, only having one name was dearly known as Armanto, Super, and AR.  He was born in a small village outside of Yogyakarta, Indonesia on February 28, 1951.

Armanto attended the Institute of Education Science where he graduated and started his work as an English teacher in Indonesia.  His desire to see the world and his mastery of the English language, he earned a position with Holland American Line Cruise Company as a waiter on cruise ships.  He advanced within the company quickly and became one of the first Indonesian’s to be promoted to Maître D' of a Main Dining Room.  Armanto loved to travel and work on the cruise ships, it gave him the opportunity to circle the globe 7 times.  He met the love of his life, Deborah, on the M.S. Rotterdam.  They were married on September 6, 1980 and started a new life in the US.

Armanto and Debbie settled in Bethlehem, NY and had two children.  Armanto’s caring nature, warm smile, and love of people made him a perfect fit for the hospitality industry.  To support his new family, he worked 3 service jobs at the same time: the Ramada Inn, Sign of the Tree Restaurant, and Tanglewood.  His work ethic and skills were rewarded with multiple promotions to first Food & Beverage Manager then Hotel General Manager.  He led multiple Hotel properties to success and at the time of his passing he was the V.P. of Operations for the Tri City Hotel Group.

Armanto loved to cook.  He enjoyed trying to make new dishes and always strived to make everything he cooked a little better each time he made it.  Sharing his creations gave him immense joy, though cleaning up was not his favorite.  He also liked to work with community groups.  He was a proud member of the Bethlehem Lions Club, Albany Chamber of Commerce, and Matamoras Chamber of Commerce.

Armanto was excited about his heart transplant, as he was looking forward to traveling home to Indonesia and taking cruises to Europe and Scotland.  Throughout the month journey after receiving his new heart, his radiant smile was always present.  He was so very grateful for the surgeons, the medical staff, and the donor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tukiyem and Tukimin Wignyowiyarj, and his daughter Larissa Suparmanto.  Armanto is survived by his wife Deborah Suparmanto of Delmar, NY.  His son Derek (Elizabeth) Suparmanto of Delmar, NY.  His brothers and sisters Soekirmanto (Sri Endang), Trimanto (Sri Daningsih), Surata (Annie Fersari), Murniyati (Suparja), Wahyuningsih (Santosa Budi), and his nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, September 25

at 9am graveside in the Bethlehem Cemetery on Kenwood Ave.  Please be prepared to wear a mask for the service.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to “Feed Albany” in memory of Suparmanto.
