GLENMONT - Shirley Mills Post passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side early Friday, October 14, 2011 .
Shirley was born on October 11, 1936 in Batavia, NY, daughter of the late Olin and Blanche Mills. She was a 1954 graduate of Batavia High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from S.U.N.Y. Geneseo in 1958. Shirley was an educator for many years, teaching various grades including Kindergarten and 2nd grades at John Kennedy School, Batavia, N.Y. and 3rd grade at Alexander Central School.
Shirley moved to Albany with her husband and children in 1974. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church , Batavia, N.Y., and current member of the First United Methodist Church of Delmar and the Delmar Progress Club.
Shirley enjoyed being with her family, volunteering, gardening and antiquing.
Surviving are her son Brian and his wife Michelle Kirby Post of Peru, N.Y., and daughter Andrea Post Baer and her husband Mark Baer, of Framingham, MA. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Benjamin and Allison Post, and Colden and Tate Baer, along with many other loving family members and friends. Shirley joins her parents Blanche and Olin Mills, and husband of 32 years, Dale M. Post in eternal life. Shirley and Dale were married from September of 1962 until his passing in July of 1995. Shirley was also predeceased by her devoted companion of several recent years, Sylvester Kedzierski.
Her family would like to thank the Community Hospice of Albany and all of her wonderful neighbors for their kind support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia at a later date.
