DELMAR – Shirley A. Martin, 85, died peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2015 with her loving family at her side at Albany Medical Center Hospital after heart complications following surgery.
Born on March 4, 1929 in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Merrill F. and Martha R. (Mollnow) Freise. She graduated from high school in 1947 and attended Bryant and Stratton Business School in Buffalo. She did secretarial work for NYS Life Underwriters in Albany as well as various other firms in the Capital District. Shirley was a member of the Delmar Reformed Church since 1955 where she served in many capacities. Her hobbies included knitting and pie making. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Frank E. Martin.
She is survived by her loving children, Deborah Grimes (Rex) of Redwood, NY, Douglas (Kristine) of Guilderland, Daniel (Rachel) of Mount Vernon, WA and David (Julie) of Delmar; sister, Janet R. Bradley of Tonawanda; grandchildren, Brendon, Courtney, Kerry, Jessica, Alyssa, Kaitlyn, Jonathan, Autumn and Xander; great granddaughters, Sophia and Mirabelle; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 2nd from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 3rd at the Delmar Reformed Church. Private interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
