Salvatore “Sal” Castelli of Ravena, NY passed away Sunday, August 20th surrounded by his family.
Salvatore was an all-around family man, loving father to his children Laura, Vincent (Jordan), Matthew and Alicia, and devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren Hayden, Vincent Jr., Genevieve and Elora. They were his greatest joy and their unconditional love showered him. Their unforgettable bond with him will have them speaking his name and telling of his antics for generations to come.
Born on April 26th, 1948, he was raised in Long Island to the late Vincent and Josephine. Sal made a home in the hearts of everyone he met. He leaves behind his sister Maria, her children Jennifer (Carl, Richard & Cheyanne) and John, and his forever love Eleanor Goodman, “We did good El.” And so many more family and friends that will forever love and cherish him.
Sal spent every waking moment celebrating his colorful life with the people he loved. He also loved flowers and his gardens. He could bake a perfect cheesecake and an unforgettable shrimp scampi. He loved telling stories, was an avid reader and a true fan of sci-fi and Star Trek. And he shared his wisdom as often as he could. He also loved Christmas, creating his magnificent Christmas trees and choosing and giving generous gifts.
Sal commanded a room with charisma and affection, and created a safe space for so many to live and love, and he accepted everyone for who they were. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
To honor Salvatore’s memory, we are holding a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at Applebee Funeral Home from 2pm to 5pm. Funeral services will be held the following day, Monday, at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.
We love you Dad.
