ALBANY- Ruth Stewart Wojtal, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital Hospice. The daughter of the late William Stewart and Carolyn Keefe, she was born on March 16, 1925 at Brady Maternity Home in Albany.
At eight, Ruth’s mother passed away moving her and her sister to Quail St with their beloved Grandmother Rose. As a young girl Ruth lived in Niskayuna along the Mohawk River and graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1944. Ruth sang on local radio shows, and while working as a telephone operator when she met and married her husband, Eugene in 1949. They lived in Albany and later moved to Latham where they began raising their five children. In 1965, a job transfer took her husband to Manhattan and the family to Rockland County were they resided for the next 25 years. Ruth developed an interest in cake decorating and became a Wilton Method Instructor, and later found a passion for folk art painting. She was always artistic. After her husband retired they moved back upstate spending their later years in Albany.
The loving mother, wife and sister was preceded by her husband Eugene, daughter Lynn, her sister Carolyn and most recently her son Mark, and is survived by her children Robert (Eve) of Greenfield Park, NY, Kathy (Michael) of Delray Beach, FL, Todd of Albany, NY, Daughter-in-Law Carlyn, his grandchildren William (Wavi), Kristen, Kyle and great-grand daughter Ava.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 New Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, in Glenmont.
