On January 27, 2019, Ruth Geier Roemer passed peacefully at home at the age of 94 from a broken heart. Her loving and devoted husband of 75 years, James W. Roemer, Sr., had predeceased her by ten days on January 17, 2019. It was time for them to reunite and continue their very special love story.
Ruth was born on March 7, 1924 in Albany, NY to Edward Geier and Margaret Mosley Geier. Ruth was a graduate of Albany Academy for Girls and was employed by the New York Telephone Company for a brief period of time until she assumed her responsibility as a full-time mother and supportive wife. Ruth married the love of her life on August 22, 1943. One of her first challenges as a young wife and mother was to give birth to and raise her firstborn son on her own for over a year until her husband returned from serving in WWII. Ruth and Jim would be blessed with two more children.
For many years, Ruth volunteered as a driver for the American Red Cross and later for Meals on Wheels in the Town of Berne. Ruth was an accomplished bridge player and rarely missed attending her monthly women’s bridge club meetings. When her husband retired, Ruth and Jim enjoyed their travels to Cape Cod and Maui, as well as adventures to various national parks with their friends. As the family matriarch, Ruth enjoyed hosting the traditional mid-afternoon Sunday dinners with her entire extended family in attendance. With the assistance of family, especially thru the devotion of her daughter Jill, Ruth lived her last years, with her husband, comfortably at their home on Warner’s Lake where she could see the “Diamonds on the Lake” at sunset.
Ruth is survived by her three children, James W. Jr. (Elaine), Guy (Michele) and Jill. She will also be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie McCormack Hartman. The family would like to thank Ruth’s guardian angels and caretakers Caren, Taylor and Rosemary for their care, concern and love.
All are invited to join the family in celebrating the lives of both Ruth and Jim, Sr. on Saturday, May 18
