DELMAR - Ruth L. Kirkman, 101, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush.
Ruth was born on August 20, 1912 in Thomaston, CT, the daughter of the late Anton and Helen (Seger) Anderson. Ruth had been a professional model in Chicago during the 1930's and 1940's. For many years she owned and operated Antiques at the Tollgate and The Country Corner Gift Shop. Ruth had been a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albany. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Kirkman and daughter, Janice Harvith.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Scanlon of Glenmont; a son, Robert Kirkman of Pittsfield, MA; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Ruth will be remembered for her resilient spirit, her creativity and her wonderful sense of humor. Her family will treasure the stories of her many escapades. The family members also wish to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Evergreen Commons for the exceptional care and attention they gave to Ruth.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 3rd at 11 am at the Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Nehemiah Medical Missions or the charity of your choice.
