BENNINGTON, VT – Ruth S. Hollner, 94 a longtime resident of Delmar, NY and most recently of Watson House in North Bennington, VT died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Mrs. Hollner was born in Delmar on April 6, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Caulfield) Smith.
Mrs. Hollner worked at Huyck Felt Company in Albany, NY for many years continuing this work in her home when she was raising her children. She later retired from Food Services at the Bethlehem Central Middle School. Mrs. Hollner was a long time member of the Glenmont Community Church where she served wherever she was needed. She was involved in many activities while she was raising her children; Cub Scouts den mother and Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed swimming , picnics, traveling, working in her flower garden, reading and crocheting afghans. She gave away many of these afghans to family and friends. Mrs. Hollner was an avid scrabble player for all of her adult life, playing into her 94th year.
Mrs. Hollner's husband of 54 years predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by her son Donald Hollner and his wife Janet of Bennington, VT and her daughter Jane Paulin and her husband Lee of Middlesex, VT. Other survivors include her two grandchildren, Jake and Erika Hollner, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 11am in the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 9:30am. Burial will follow the service in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
