Russell Anthony Preville, 65, of Delmar, died at home on January 15, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with systemic scleroderma and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Russell was born in Albany, NY to Oliver and Jean Preville and grew up in Round Lake. He worked for Hannaford Supermarkets for 25 years where he was highly regarded, being named Employee of the Month numerous times and Employee of the Year in 1992. Russell was known for his hard work and dedication, working well into his illness.
Russell was a wonderful father to his daughter, Vanessa, and a fun uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was a lover of all kinds of animals. Many times he climbed a tree to rescue somebody else’s cat or nursed any hurt animal that family and friends brought by.
Russell is survived by his wife of 38 years, Alison Preville, his beloved daughter Vanessa (Shaun LaMay), his animal companions Henry, Milo, and Oscar, and grandpups Renly and Rondo. Russell is also survived by his parents, Oliver and Jean Preville, and siblings Tom (Kathy), Sue Wolbert (Rick), Scott (Christine), Frank (Helene) Ollie, Todd (Andrea), Christopher, and Tammy VanWormer. Russell is also survived by many nieces and nephews including his special niece and goddaughter, Brooke Westervelt. He is predeceased by his younger brother, Art.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lee Shapiro, Dr. Boris Medarov, and nurse Jessica Kleinke for their compassionate care throughout the duration of Russell’s illness.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar, on Sunday, January 23rd from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Facial coverings will be required.
