WALKERSVILLE, MD - Russell L. Parker, 90 of Walkersville, Maryland went home to be with The Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at home. Born May 23, 1925 in Albany, New York he was the son of the late Raymond Parker and Mildred Vine Parker. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Parker Pierce. He is survived by his devoted wife of Elaine Richey Parker of 66 years. In addition to his loving wife Elaine he is survived by his son, Douglas R. Parker, daughter Debra Parker Weldon and husband David, his granddaughters, Amy Weldon Jenkins and husband Langdon, Arin Weldon Goddard and husband Robert and Corrie Weldon Eby and husband James and nine great grandchildren. Russell served for three years in the Navy as an Aviation Radioman in WWII. He graduated from Union College with a degree in Civil Engineering and received his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from R.P.I. He was employed for 38 years in the Bridge Design office of the New York State Department of Transportation and subsequently by Gandhi Engineering Inc. He and his wife were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church of Delmar, where he played on the softball team and worked on the Annual Bazaar for many years. He had many different hobbies and interests such as watch repair, photography, writing poems & limericks and playing the harmonica. He enjoyed playing many sports which included bowling, pitching horseshoes, softball, golfing, fishing and playing ping pong. He was thoughtful, hardworking, patient and humble. He always took interest in others and was a very good listener. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00AM at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. The family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to service time from 10:00 to 11:00AM. Interment will be Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to First United Methodist Church of Delmar, 428 Kenwood Ave., Delmar, NY 12054.
