Rose Marie Tice passed from this life on February 12, 2024. Born March 26, 1933 to Ida and Stephen Ruzzi, she was raised on a cherished Catskill family farm along with her siblings Marcy, Steve and cousin Elaine and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and Rochester’s Eastman School of Dental Hygiene. Rose then worked as a dental hygienist while being courted by Richard Tice, also of Catskill, who became the love of her life and until he passed away last August, her husband of nearly sixty-six years. Early in their marriage and during a nine-year relocation to Florida, Rose and Richard became the proud parents of Richard, Jr., and Karen Anne. Before her untimely passing, Karen and her husband, Robert Boughton, Jr., blessed Rose and Richard with grandchildren Shannon, Bobby, Jennifer, Daniel, and Kara, which, in turn, led to their becoming great-grandparents six times over (and counting).
An outstanding cook, homemaker and occasional homebuilding general contractor, Rose was the rock of her family, caring at one time or another for members of five of its generations. Of particular note is the nurturing she provided her grandchildren after Karen’s passing. That continuing act of selfless concern epitomized her life: she put others first and did so to such an extent that reciting a life-long account of her generosities would require a truly enormous space.
Rose fought courageously through her final illness and yet was at peace with the prospect of leaving this world behind. As for her family, the fond memories she leaves behind will be their heartfelt companion for as long as they live.
Friends of Rose’s family are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday February 23rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 24th, with interment to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
