SLINGERLANDS - Robert E. Wright, 90, of Slingerlands, NY passed away peacefully at the Albany Stratton VA Hospital on December 21, 2012. He was the son of the late Walter and Edith (Moak) Wright .
A U.S. Army veteran, Bob honorably served his country in the 10th Mountain Division during WW II and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Italy.
Robert was the founder of Robert Wright Disposal, Inc. in 1949 which is his legacy that is being carried on by his second and third generation. Besides his love for the refuse industry, Bob enjoyed much of his time surrounded by family and friends at his lake house in Wells, NY. Bob loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed doing so with his children and grandchildren. In his later years he would relish watching his children and grandchildren enjoying life in Wells. After retiring Bob took up the hobby of making Adirondack furniture which he was proud to make for family and friends. For many years Bob was also a member of the Delmar Fire Department and the Albany Pistol Club. On occasion Bob would enjoy meandering into the local VFW hall to share war stories.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Florence (Luciano) Wright, Son Robert W. (Joan) Wells, N.Y. , Grandson Robert D. (Kristy) Wells, NY, great grandchildren, Lilianna, Ryder and Sophia, and a son Gerald M. (Susan), Slingerlands, NY, granddaughters, Lea and Abbi. He is also survived by a sister in law, Katherine (Kay) Wright and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 28th from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, December 29th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albany Stratton V.A.
