On Friday, April 8 2022, Robert Patrick McGrath, 67 years of age, went home to heaven, smiling as a song played. "We'll soon be going home," by Paul Clark. He was in his home surrounded by his family.
Bob was an Army Veteran from the Vietnam era. He graduated the Culinary Institute of America in 1980. While working for Marriott, he received several awards.
Feeding people and going out to eat at restaurants were his favorite things to do, the true spirit of a chef. Throughout his life he spent time being a foster dad, a youth worker, a devoted member of the DAV and an active member of his church. Bob loved people and loved to talk to everyone. He was a giver that would go above and beyond to bring joy and happiness to others.
He leaves behind his wife, Virgie, of 42 years; his children Rebecca Kendall (husband Michael Kendall) Michael, Norman (fiance Amber Poole) and Eric; three grandchildren; and his three brothers John (wife Nancy) Daniel (wife Lori) and Michael (wife Mary Ann).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 11 am at Stamford Baptist Church, Stamford NY, with a repass to follow. All are welcome to join us in celebrating Bob's life.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Disabled American Veterans.
