DELMAR- Robert G. Kahnle died Sunday, August 24, 2014 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
Bob was born in Albany on November 9, 1926 to the late Andrew and Bertha (Heft) Kahnle, the youngest of four children.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Miller) Kahnle (their 40th wedding anniversary would have been on November 8th of this year); sons Thomas and Ross; grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Jessika and Ross Jr.; Daughter-in-law Elizabeth. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families who loved their "uncle Bob". He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew Kahnle and his two sisters, Elsie Piniazek and Madeline Hiser
Bob graduated from Albany High School in 1944. Later that year he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific on a minesweeper during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040 in Delmar. Bob was active in his church, the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Albany.
He worked in private industry for 30 years as a Bookkeeper/Accountant, followed by 10 years at the Albany County Department of Social Services from which he retired in 1985. After retiring, Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling through the United States and Canada.
Some of his other interests were playing pinochle with family and friends, gardening, reading mystery books, attending races at Saratoga during the summer season, watching NY Yankees Games and following with pride his grandson Tommy Kahnle's career in Major League Baseball.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10am in the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar with Pastor David Preisinger officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday, from 4 to 7pm. Interment will follow the funeral service in Holy Spirit Lutheran Cemetery, Feura Bush Rd., Glenmont.
