DELMAR - Robert F. Hermann, 68, of Delmar, passed away on August 12, 2017 at home. Bob was born on Long Island and went to Plainview/Old Bethpage High School. He then went on to earn a B.S. Degree at Siena College and an M.S. Degree from U. Albany.
He made many life-long friends at Siena, where he played basketball and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He then taught Math at Guilderland High School and stayed in touch with many colleagues there.
As a father and grandfather, he had a gift for creating bedtime stories and making an adventure out of any activity, even just a walk around the neighborhood.
Bob enjoyed being a Siena season ticket holder for over four decades, and attended many regional NCAA games. He continued to play basketball in the CSBL for over 15 years, as well as with other local leagues and friends and also participated in softball leagues, enjoying the camaraderie as much as the sport. He vacationed frequently, visiting with family and friends in Florida, California, Lake George, Cape Cod, and D.C.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marcia Gilhooly Hermann; his son, Craig, of Denver; CO; his daughter, Kathleen Bush (Bryan) of Westmont, PA; and his three cherished granddaughters, Keelin, Ashlyn, and Avery Bush; his brother Russell of Laguna Niguel, CA; as well as beloved cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, August 21st from 4 to7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, Delmar. A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar, at 10 am on Tuesday, August 22nd.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. David Shaffer and staff at NYOH, the Community Hospice team who helped us keep Bob at home, and the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the Siena community.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Hospice or Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital District.
