DELMAR- Robert James Glastetter, 86, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Stratton VA Medical Center with his family at his side.
Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret Glastetter and brother of the late Donald Glastetter. He was also predeceased by his wife, Joan Gould Glastetter, sister-in-law, Margaret Jones and brother-in-law, Walter Smith. Survivors include his companion of over 25 years, Carol Jarolomen; sons, Donald (Isabel), Daniel (Debra) and David (Marci) Glastetter; sister-in-law, Lois Smith; ten grandchildren, Patti Lucky, Jennifer Hammond, Steven, Kevin, Karen, Andrew, James, Kristy, Anna and Ian Glastetter; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Douglas H. Fox from 1946 to 1947 until the ship was hit by a mine off the shores of Italy. He was a longtime auto mechanic with Bailey's Garage in Delmar. Bob's memberships included Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040 American Legion, serving as Commander from 1981-1982 and 1984-1985; Albany County American Legion; life member of the Bethlehem Memorial Post 3185 VFW; and longtime social member of the Elsmere Fire Co.
A committal service with military honors will be held 11 am Thursday, February 26th at the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. There will be no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to the VA Hospice Unit, Stratton VAMC, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 Attn: Sandy Osborne.
