DELMAR - Robert J. Foster, Jr., 82, of Delmar, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Albany on January 26, 1928, he was the son of the late Robert J. Foster, Sr. and Ruth (Williams) Neumann. Bob graduated from Milne High School and attended Siena College. He also honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. After working at American Locomotive Co. (ALCO) in Schenectady, Mr. Foster went to work at Albany Protective Service in 1961 where he became President in 1969 until his retirement in 1993. Bob loved classical music, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, especially to Vermont. He loved getting together with friends to play cards in a pinochle club for many years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Rita (Wilson) Foster; three sons, Mark Foster and his wife, Shirley of Guilderland, Ross Foster and his companion, Cathy Fiacco of Colonie and Timothy Foster and his wife, Sandee of Ft. Myers, FL; two daughters, Eileen (Foster) Tassistro and her husband, Rick of Enfield, CT and Diana (Foster) Currier and her friend, Rick Lowell of Windham, ME; grandchildren, Brian and Amy Foster, Jennifer Foster, Andrew and Julie Foster, Kristina and Laura Tassistro and Brandon Currier; great granddaughter, Katrina; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the volunteers from Bethlehem Senior Services who graciously donated their time to drive Bob to and from his dialysis appointments. Their generosity is truly appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
