Richard V.B. Tice – Glenmont, NY
Richard Van Buskirk Tice passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Born March 11, 1929 to Bessie and Lester Tice, Richard was raised and schooled in Catskill, where he came to be a Catskill High basketball star. Catskill is also where he met Rose Marie, the love of his life and wife of nearly sixty-six years. Early in their marriage and during a nine year relocation to Florida, Richard and Rose became the parents of two fine children, Richard, Jr. and Karen Anne. Before her untimely passing, Karen and her husband, Robert Boughton, Jr., blessed Richard and Rose with grandchildren Shannon, Bobby, Jennifer, Daniel and Kara, which, in turn, led to their becoming great grandparents six times over (and counting).
A resident of the Town of Bethlehem, Richard was employed in the civil engineering, construction and land development field for sixty-five years before his retirement at nearly ninety. Through his work, Richard made many good friends who greatly admired his professional expertise and winning personality.
When his country called, Richard proudly served in the US Army’s Second Armored Division and just as proudly served Catskill during his younger years as a Citizens Hose Company volunteer.
While his death was indeed a sad affair, Richard passed thankful his 94-year life enabled him to leave a legacy that will outlive him for many decades to come.
Rose invites family and friends to call on Friday, August 18 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 19 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar.
Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
