GLENMONT - Richard Joseph Schwab, 84, of Glenmont passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 4, 1927, Richard was the son of the late Arthur and Christine (Holtgrefe) Schwab.
The oldest of ten children, Richard enlisted in the US Navy at age 17, serving his country proudly for 22 years retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. While in the service, Richard met his dear wife, Henrietta, settling in Brooklyn, NY to raise his family. Richard enjoyed a second retirement from the NY Telephone Company working as a frameman for more than 20 years. Following that, he moved to Delmar with his wife to enjoy the company of his grandchildren.
Richard is predeceased by his loving wife Henrietta (Khan) and several of his siblings. He is survived by his loving daughters, Donna Falkenhainer (Franky) and Michelle Hansen (Robert Marone). Richard was the cherished Pop-Pops to Myles (Lauren), Lauren and Andrew Falkenhainer. Dear brother to Mary Ann, Margie and Bill, Richard is survived by the extended Schwab family of Ohio and Kentucky. In addition, Richard is survived by his nephew Gregory Kamouh (Mimi) and family as well as Niece-in-law, Elizabeth Kamouh (late Joseph) and family.
Special thanks are offered by the family to the staff at the 4th floor Cardiac Unit at St. Peter's Hospital for their special care and tenderness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 9:30 am at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Relatives and friends may call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar on Monday, April 30th from 4 to 7 pm. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
