DELMAR - Raymond J. Roohan, age 86, passed away on Sunday, April 13th at the Stratton VA Medical Center surrounded by his family. Raymond was predeceased by his love and lifelong partner in life Alida E. Bibby. Raymond was born in Albany, NY to the late Raymond J Roohan, Sr. and Kathryn Reilly of Troy.
Raymond was a graduate of the Vincentian Institute of Albany and attended Siena College. He was employed by the General Electric Company for 33 years in various marketing, advertising and program management positions. He proudly served his country in the Air Force as a pilot. Upon leaving the Air Force, he served as a flight instructor for single engine airplanes with the Civil Air Patrol. He was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, American Legion Blanchard Post, and Knights of Columbus serving in various roles from Faithful Navigator, Grand Knight and Master of the Fourth Degree 3rd District New York.
He enjoyed love of family, traveling, model ship building and his Irish heritage.
Survivors include his children, James Roohan of Delmar, Alida Neumann (Dennis) of Naperville, IL, Raymond Roohan (Dorothy) of Delmar, and Kevin Roohan (Nicole) of Schenectady; grandsons, Brian Neumann, Liam Roohan, A.J. Roohan, Brennan Roohan, and granddaughters, Sarah Neumann and Tricia Roohan.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 15th at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16th at 11:30 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar, followed by interment at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in memory of Raymond J. Roohan to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
